Joint market initiatives for green hydrogen electrolysers in India will be developed by Greenko ZeroC (GZC) and John Cockerill of Belgium, a high-capacity alkaline electrolyzers designer and manufacturer.
GZC and John Cockerill will collaborate in all aspects of the market evolution for green hydrogen electrolyzers, which convert clean energy into carbon-free hydrogen, by combining their strengths.
They plan to develop new technologies to produce carbon-negative fuels in order to speed up the energy transition that companies and countries are making..
Global demand for environmentally friendly hydrogen is growing rapidly, and Greenko, an Indian company based in Hyderabad, is already building capacity to meet it.
By utilizing India’s large and diverse renewable energy generation base, as well as its own long-duration storage projects, Greenko hopes to deliver green hydrogen and associated green molecules at international prices that are cost-competitive.
This partnership will allow for the delivery of electrolyzers at a large scale in India within the next year, facilitating the production of the lowest-cost green hydrogen.
As a result, a green molecule-related ecosystem will be adopted more quickly across the country.
There are plans to build up to one million tons of green ammonia export capacity in India by 2025, which will require a capacity of 2GW of electrolyzer.
In the global market for green ammonia, Greenko will have an advantage.
India’s recently announced goal of net zero emissions by 2070 requires a carbon-free energy mix that includes industrial green hydrogen, which PM Narendra Modi laid out at COP26 in Glasgow.
In India, 5-6 million tons of hydrogen are consumed each year, and if 25% of that is replaced with green hydrogen, it will create a domestic market and supply chain that will allow for the substitution of at least 3 million tons of ammonia imports.
