Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) will invest 100 billion won in the Yaeum area of Nam-gu, Ulsan, to construct a hydrogen fusion facility, such as a hydrogen fuel cell power plant.

Ulsan City, in collaboration with KHNP and Ulsan City Corporation, declared on the 21st that it will develop the Green New Deal hydrogen convergence project in the Yaeum area utilizing by-product hydrogen. The Yaeum neighborhood is a green buffer zone between the Ulsan Petrochemical Complex and the city center, where public housing is planned.

KHNP will invest 100 billion won in this project to establish a 10MW hydrogen convergence facility that can serve 24,000 families per year. Hydrogen-based infrastructure, such as a hydrogen fuel cell power plant and a hydrogen charging station, will be erected to provide heat to public buildings, such as heating and hot water.

Ulsan City declared in March that it will build a carbon-free hydrogen village in the Yaeum area. The city intended the 10MW hydrogen fuel cell power facility to have the impact of growing 1.8 million trees and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from 6,000 automobiles.

14 hydrogen charging stations in Gwangju

On the 21st, the Yeongsan River Basin Environment Agency said that 14 hydrogen charging stations will be erected this year, including two in Gwangju and twelve in Jeonnam.

This year, the Yeongsan River Environment Administration will provide 2671 hydrogen vehicles to Gwangju and Jeonnam (2650 passenger cars and 21 buses).

As the number of hydrogen cars grew, the Yeongsan River Environment Administration decided to establish a charging station for residents’ convenience.

A hydrogen charging station with a capacity of 25 kg of hydrogen per hour will be erected at the Hampyeong Cheonji rest area in early May. (in the direction of Mokpo).

Five hydrogen charging stations, including two in Gwangju and three in Jeonnam, will open in 2023.

In Seonghwang-dong, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, a hydrogen charging station launched on this day.

It has the capacity to charge up to 25 kg of hydrogen per hour and can accommodate up to five passenger automobiles at once.

A hydrogen charging station was constructed earlier this week in the public bus depot in Jangdeung-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.

It can charge up to 50 units per day and can charge 120 kg per hour.

“Demand for low-emission automobiles is rising,” said Kim Seung-hee, director of the Yeongsan River Basin Environment Agency.
