H-TEC creates modular hydrogen electrolyzer for 10 MW+ green hydrogen applications

The demand from industry for significant hydrogen projects is rising continuously. In response, MAN Energy Solutions subsidiary H-TEC SYSTEMS created a new Modular Hydrogen Platform (MHP), a scalable system for the production of green hydrogen on a large scale.

The standardised blocks can be combined to create systems with an electrolysis power output of 100 MW or more. They each have an electrolysis performance of 10 MW. High system efficiency (77% (51kWh/kg at 30 bar pressure), high availability, and a tried-and-true maintenance philosophy are all features of the H-TEC SYSTEMS MHP electrolyzer. Low production costs for hydrogen as well as reliable operation are made possible by the new technology.

The S450 stack technology, which has already demonstrated its viability in the market, is the foundation for the highly standardised 10 MW blocks from H-TEC SYSTEMS.

The innovative method uses pre-assembled skids for a particularly simple indoor installation. A power supply and integrated process water treatment are features of each 10 MW block. As needed, the system can also be expanded with equipment for treating hydrogen and fresh water, as well as for process heat recovery or oxygen utilisation.

In addition to efficiency, an electrolyzer’s system accessibility also matters greatly. This is where the MHP presents a novel redundancy idea. An established portion of the installation can be shut down while the rest of the electrolyzer keeps running in the case of a stack failure inside a 10 MW block, as well as for routine maintenance or inspections. Customers in the industrial and renewable energy sectors would greatly benefit from the systems’ ability to function virtually perfectly even in the event of a fault thanks to this approach.

Experts from H-TEC SYSTEMS maintain the system through a thorough maintenance service programme. Customers in the European region can now acquire the Modular Hydrogen Platform (MHP).
