H2 Green Steel has partnered with Volvo Group to supply near-zero emissions steel for the manufacturing of commercial vehicles.

This groundbreaking collaboration aims to reduce the carbon footprint associated with the production of trucks, buses, and construction machinery. As the automotive industry increasingly adopts electrified solutions to lower emissions during operation, the significance of environmentally conscious supply chains and production processes cannot be overstated. Steel, as a fundamental material in vehicle manufacturing, plays a pivotal role in Volvo Group’s sustainability journey.

Andrea Fuder, Chief Purchasing Officer of Volvo Group, emphasized the critical role of collaborations in achieving emissions reduction goals. “Collaborations which support our work to reduce emissions are crucial on the path towards net zero,” she stated. Steel, renowned for its contribution to the carbon footprint of end products, becomes a focal point in the endeavor to advance sustainable transportation and infrastructure solutions.

The long-term supply agreement established with Volvo Group is designed to source green steel from H2 Green Steel’s state-of-the-art plant in Boden, Northern Sweden. Production at this cutting-edge facility is slated to commence by the end of 2025, with deliveries to Volvo Group scheduled to initiate in mid-2026.

Henrik Henriksson, CEO of H2 Green Steel, expressed enthusiasm about the burgeoning demand for green steel within the commercial vehicle industry. He sees it as a testament to the market’s interest in sustainable materials. “When an undeniable industry leader like Volvo Group, at the forefront of sustainable change, places a customer order, it’s a clear sign of confidence in both our company and our product,” Henriksson affirmed.

This alliance between H2 Green Steel and Volvo Group not only underscores the significance of greener steel production but also signals a resounding commitment to environmental stewardship within the automotive sector. As the world collectively pursues decarbonization, this collaboration serves as a noteworthy example of how industry leaders are aligning their efforts to bring about a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
