Five Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses have been ordered by Hamburger Hochbahn. Hamburg will see the introduction of these zero-emission automobiles as early as the second quarter of 2024.
Ballard Power Systems’ 70 kW hydrogen fuel cell will provide the energy needed to power the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen units. The company Solaris has been working on hydrogen technology since 2014. At that time, the Urbino electric 18 hydrogen bus with a range extender was introduced in Hamburg and began transporting passengers on the ground-breaking 109 route.
Up to 70 passengers, including 26 seated passengers, may board any bus that is ordered. Also, the carrier chose a traditional 2-2-2 door configuration with an enclosed driver’s cab.
