India’s renewable energy landscape has been expanding rapidly, with Hero Future Energies (HFE) securing a 120 megawatt floating solar project in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
This development marks a notable step in India’s ongoing journey toward increasing its solar power capacity, which aims to reach 280 gigawatts by 2030. In contrast to traditional solar farms, floating solar projects like the one HFE is undertaking, aim to mitigate land usage concerns while reducing water evaporation and improving energy efficiency through cooling effects from water bodies.
HFE’s strategic push into Vietnam’s burgeoning green hydrogen market represents another progressive move. With the potential investment of $200 million, HFE plans to capitalize on Vietnam’s geographic and economic conditions that favor renewable energy. According to the International Energy Agency, Asia is becoming a focal point for hydrogen technology due to expanding industrial demand and supportive government policies.
The transition of Vietnam to a hydrogen-based economy depends heavily on infrastructure development and effective policy implementation. HFE’s venture could well trigger a chain reaction, encouraging further investments, and adding momentum to Vietnam’s target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
