HIF Global, Idemitsu Kosan, and MOL have joined forces to develop an eFuels supply chain. This collaboration aims to revolutionize the transportation sector by introducing carbon-neutral eFuels as an immediate replacement for fossil fuels.
The key goals of this partnership include assessing the demand for carbon dioxide (CO2) in eFuels production facilities, studying the capture of CO2 in Japan, and examining the transportation and shipping of CO2 and eFuels. By recycling approximately 25 million tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of emissions from over 5 million cars, HIF Global is taking a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and achieving a net zero future.
eFuels are produced using electrolyzers powered by renewable energy to create carbon-neutral fuels that can be seamlessly integrated into existing engines without modification. This technology offers a versatile and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
The potential impact of this collaboration is vast, with implications for both the energy and transportation sectors. By establishing a robust supply chain for eMethanol and eFuels, Idemitsu Kosan is positioning itself as a leader in sustainability and is committed to reducing carbon emissions throughout its operations. MOL, on the other hand, aims to contribute to decarbonization by developing efficient maritime transport solutions for CO2, synthetic fuel, and synthetic methanol.
