Hitachi Energy, in collaboration with PowerCell Group, introduces the HyFlex Hydrogen Power Generator in Gothenburg, Sweden. This innovative solution is designed for locations where conventional power sources are impractical, offering an emission-free alternative with a range of applications.

The HyFlex is a scalable plug-and-play hydrogen generator suitable for temporary or permanent installations. It addresses scenarios where power grid connections are challenging, and diesel generators are not viable. The high-power variant, catering to permanent installations, provides 1 MVA or more per unit, ensuring a versatile power supply.

The key highlight of the HyFlex is its emission-free operation, producing only AC power, usable heat, and water. In comparison to a 1 MVA diesel generator, the HyFlex eliminates the combustion of 225 kg of diesel and the emission of 720 kg of CO2 per hour, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability.

Hitachi Energy collaborates with PowerCell Group, a Gothenburg-based fuel cell manufacturer, to develop the HyFlex Hydrogen Power Generator. PowerCell contributes power modules and expertise in fuel cell integration, while Hitachi Energy brings its proficiency in power electronics, batteries, cooling, intelligent control, and systems integration to the partnership.

Marco Berardi, Head of Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service at Hitachi Energy, expresses delight in unveiling a solution that decarbonizes challenging applications. As industries increasingly seek eco-friendly alternatives, the HyFlex emerges as a pioneering solution to reduce environmental impact and enhance operational performance.

Hitachi Energy plans to launch a movable variant of the HyFlex for temporary deployment by late 2024, followed by the permanently deployable variant in 2025. This aligns with the company’s commitment to providing innovative solutions in the evolving landscape of green hydrogen technology.

With the HyFlex Hydrogen Power Generator, Hitachi Energy expands its portfolio across the green hydrogen value chain. The company positions itself as a reliable partner, offering optimal power supply systems that prioritize efficiency, reliability, and power quality as the hydrogen ecosystem advances towards gigawatt-scale projects.
