Hive Hydrogen South Africa, in collaboration with Genesis Eco-Energy, is embarking on a groundbreaking endeavor to implement 372 MW of wind power in South Africa’s Western Cape.
This initiative is a crucial component of Hive Hydrogen’s monumental R105-billion green ammonia project at Coega in the Eastern Cape, marking a significant stride towards a sustainable energy future.
The Coega green ammonia hub stands as a flagship investment project in South Africa, spearheaded by Hive Energy and co-developer BuiltAfrica. BuiltAfrica, boasting a 25% stake in Hive Hydrogen South Africa, brings extensive experience in investment and development, contributing to sustainable growth under the leadership of former Eskom CEO Thulani Gcabashe.
Genesis Eco-Energy’s wind farms are poised to generate significant employment opportunities while supporting Hive Hydrogen’s green ammonia project. The initiative, awarded Strategic Integrated Project status by the Ministry of Public Works, aims to generate 3,480 MW of power, invigorating the transmission network and facilitating grid connectivity for other independent power producers.
Hive Hydrogen South Africa’s partnership with Genesis Eco-Energy underscores a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions. With plans for multiple project phases, the collaboration seeks to harness wind power to drive sustainable development and job creation in the Eastern Cape province.
The venture aligns with South Africa’s vision for a thriving hydrogen economy, leveraging the nation’s abundant renewable energy resources. By harnessing wind power and green hydrogen production, Hive Hydrogen South Africa aims to catalyze economic growth, reduce carbon emissions, and foster energy independence.
