Chinese state-owned enterprise Huadian, in partnership with Minh Quang JSC, is embarking on a initiative to establish a massive green hydrogen facility in central Vietnam.

The proposed facility, located in Quang Tri province’s Dong Gio Linh industrial cluster, represents a paradigm shift towards sustainable energy generation. Comprising a 1,200 MW wind farm, an 800 MW solar plant, and a cutting-edge water electrolysis facility, the project underscores Vietnam’s commitment to green hydrogen production and renewable energy adoption.

Upon completion, the hydrogen hub is poised to produce an impressive 60,000 tons of hydrogen annually, contributing significantly to Vietnam’s clean energy portfolio. Beyond environmental benefits, the project promises substantial economic gains, with an estimated $250 million in yearly revenue, employment opportunities for 500 individuals, and a notable contribution of $27.5 million to the state budget.

The project will unfold in phases, with initial plans focusing on constructing a green hydrogen plant and a 200 MW solar power facility. Quang Tri province’s chairman has voiced strong support for the endeavor, emphasizing collaboration between stakeholders to streamline project studies and approval processes, ensuring timely implementation.

Minh Quang JSC’s expertise in biofuel and clean energy, coupled with Huadian Group’s extensive experience in energy infrastructure development, positions the collaboration as a formidable force in Vietnam’s renewable energy sector. Their joint efforts signify a strategic alliance dedicated to advancing green hydrogen technology and fostering sustainable growth.

Vietnam’s ambitious hydrogen strategy aims to establish robust storage, distribution, and utilization infrastructure, with an annual capacity of 10-20 million tons by 2050. By embracing modern hydrogen production technologies, the country seeks to produce 100,000-500,000 tons annually by 2030, scaling up to 10-20 million tons per year by 2050, aligning with global sustainability goals.

As construction commences on Vietnam’s inaugural green hydrogen facility in Tra Vinh province, the nation inches closer to realizing its clean energy aspirations. This transformative initiative not only propels Vietnam towards energy independence but also heralds a greener, more prosperous future for generations to come.
