The district of Euskirchen, as well as the surrounding area, will become a hydrogen hotspot.
Together with the city region, the city of Aachen, and the districts of Düren and Heinsberg, the district participates in a model region project.
The district of Euskirchen sees potential prospects in the use of hydrogen technologies in terms of systemic change and energy transfer. District Administrator Markus Ramers says, “We depend heavily on this environmentally and climate-friendly technology and want to advance it along with our partners.” In Euskirchen, for example, a CO2-neutral residential area using the energy carrier hydrogen is being built. In Mechernich, there is also a Regionalverkehr Köln training center for digital and climate-neutral mobility.
Taking advantage of the possibilities provided by the energy transition is one of the priorities of the “Hydrogen Hub Aachen.” According to the Aachen Chamber of Commerce, the region and its citizens can benefit economically by developing new business models and employment in the hydrogen economy.
