Magma Power has unveiled a new patent that revolutionizes hydrogen production by harnessing magma’s geothermal energy. This technology uses heat from subterranean magma to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The patented system involves injecting water into a reaction chamber that reaches subterranean magma. Molten salt heated by the magma facilitates the reaction, creating hydrogen and oxygen. The process is enhanced by recycling unreacted water and incorporating metal oxide catalysts. Additional feed streams like iodine and sulfur dioxide can further boost the reaction process. The system includes a method to cool and separate the hydrogen and oxygen produced, maximizing efficiency.

CEO Levi Conner highlights the importance of utilizing geothermal energy, reducing the environmental footprint of hydrogen production. Richard McDonald, Chief Strategy Officer, points out the breakthrough in efficiency through the integration of catalysts, molten salt, and water recycling. Founder KC Conner reflects on the journey to this invention, presenting it as a new standard in sustainable energy.

Magma Power is engaging with industry leaders to implement this technology in various sectors.
