Infener, a European company specializing in green hydrogen production, has teamed up with the City of Gengenbach in Germany to develop a new hydrogen hub.
This facility, with a capacity of 20 megawatts, aims to produce up to 2,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The green hydrogen will provide the Ortenau district with decentralized and cost-effective energy that is also climate-neutral. Infener’s method involves using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy to generate hydrogen.
The project is located in the Kinzigpark I industrial area and is currently in the planning and conceptual phase. The project’s realization depends on the successful outcomes from this phase, securing purchase agreements, and the necessary investment decisions.
According to Joel Vogl, CEO and co-founder of Infener, the high hydrogen production capacity presents great opportunities to form partnerships with regional entities that can utilize both hydrogen and its by-products. These collaborations could help build a sustainable local ecosystem and benefit the broader European economy. The hydrogen hub could also aid in decarbonizing logistics and industrial activities in the area.
