Ingeteam Commissions Castilla y León’s First Green Hydrogen Plant

Spain’s Castilla y León region has officially entered the hydrogen economy with the commissioning of its first renewable hydrogen production plant—delivered through a collaboration between Somacyl, Redexis, and Ingeteam, with technology supplied by H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies.

Located in Garray, Soria, the facility is designed to serve as both a local clean energy solution and a reference model for Spain’s broader hydrogen ambitions.

This 2.5 MW plant—capable of displacing up to 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually—is expected to meet the full energy and thermal requirements of the Environmental Business Park (EBP) it is co-located with, marking a critical milestone in regional industrial decarbonisation efforts.

Spanning a 3,000-square-meter footprint, the facility includes hydrogen production via electrolysis, 150 cubic meters of on-site hydrogen storage, and supporting infrastructure for monitoring, safety, and environmental control. The entire setup is powered by clean electricity, aligning with national and EU climate targets to prioritize renewable-sourced hydrogen.

Ingeteam, the project’s key technology partner, delivered its new INGECON H2 E-Series rectifier system, a turnkey solution designed to power the electrolyzer with up to 6,000 amps through a single unit. Built entirely in Navarra, Spain, the rectifier integrates with a medium-voltage transformer and was deployed alongside Ingeteam’s proprietary control systems.

According to Jorge Haya, director of Ingeteam’s hydrogen business, localization of manufacturing and commissioning was a deliberate strategy: “Providing our technology to projects close to where they are designed and manufactured allows us to provide exceptional monitoring and helps us continue developing robust equipment.”

This marks the second hydrogen project for which H2B2 has selected Ingeteam as a technology partner, following the SoHyCal initiative in California, USA.

Ingeteam’s broader hydrogen portfolio now includes a 550 MW order book, with the Garray facility representing the second commissioned project in Spain. The firm sees growing traction across industrial and public-sector clients amid rising policy interest in electrolytic hydrogen production across the Iberian Peninsula.
