Ionbond has joined the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, which aims to hasten the adoption of fuel cell, electrolyzer, and hydrogen technologies across Europe.

Ionbond specializes in protecting PEM fuel cells and electrolyzers with protective coatings.

Fuel cell stacks must meet a number of stringent criteria in order to achieve approval. They must demonstrate consistent, dependable output at high demand levels over time. They must also meet appropriate price efficiency standards in addition to these performance and durability criteria.

Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) stacks are moving away from graphite and toward titanium and stainless steel bipolar plates in a variety of applications. Stainless steel, in particular, is ideal for fuel cells because of its formability, mechanical properties, and affordability.

The tough electrochemical conditions necessitate increased stainless steel corrosion resistance while preserving high electrical conductivity. IHI Ionbond has a range of coatings in its portfolio that can help with this.

“We are pleased to have joined the Alliance and we seek to contribute to the expanded role of fuel cells and electrolyzers in the decarbonized future, with the development of our innovative coatings portfolio and expertise in coating service production.”
