JERA, Japan’s power generator, has forged a partnership with ExxonMobil to delve into the development of a low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production project in the United States.

This joint endeavor aims to revolutionize the global energy landscape by leveraging cutting-edge technology and strategic collaboration.

ExxonMobil’s ambitious project, slated to become the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production plant at its Baytown Complex in Texas, heralds a new era of clean energy production. With an annual capacity of approximately 900,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen and over one million tonnes of low-carbon ammonia, this endeavor is poised to redefine the norms of sustainable energy production.

The goals of this partnership extend beyond mere production. JERA envisions leveraging its expertise to explore ownership participation in the project and secure approximately 500,000 tonnes annually of low-carbon ammonia for Japan’s burgeoning demand. This strategic alignment underscores a shared commitment to driving the transition towards a decarbonized society on a global scale.
