Total Eren’s H2 Magallanes project, a gigawatt-scale green hydrogen and ammonia development in Chile, has awarded the UK-based John Wood Group a contract to provide conceptual engineering.
Total Eren sees the project as a chance to build a desalination plant, an ammonia production facility, and port facilities to transport green ammonia to national and international markets, as well as to install 10 GW of wind power to support 8 GW of electrolysis. The entire setup would take place in the Magallanes region of southern Chile, in the commune of San Gregorio.
According to Wood, the contract covers the development of an off-grid integrated energy complex to produce ammonia from green hydrogen. The project will begin in 2025 and produce the first hydrogen in 2027, according to Total Eren.
