At the international COMTRANS-2021 show in Moscow, KAMAZ unveiled the KAMAZ-6290 hydrogen fuel cell bus.

The bus chassis and body were assembled in Bashkiria by NEFAZ, a KAMAZ Group affiliate. KAMAZ’s research and technology facility was equipped with the roof equipment.

The body is constructed of high-strength steel and plastic, ensuring the necessary durability and safety during an emergency. The KAMAZ-6282 hydrogen fuel cell bus weighs a total of 19 tonnes and has overall dimensions of 12.4 x 2.55 3.4 m.

The bus is propelled by hydrogen fuel cells and equipped with six compressed hydrogen storage cylinders. To ensure safety, the cylinders are installed on the roof. Hydrogen escapes into the atmosphere in the event of a leak and does not enter the compartment. Additionally, unlike the electric bus, which has a range of 70 kilometers after a full battery recharge, the hydrogen fuel cell bus has a range of 250 kilometers, making it suitable for interurban service.

The world is moving forward and we cannot lag behind. The hydrogen bus, or the hydrogen electric bus, is the next step in the search for alternative energy sources and in the development of modern environmentally friendly passenger transport. When it was created, the KAMAZ-6282 electric bus was taken as a basis. For three years of use in Moscow, this bus has proven itself well— comfortable, noiselessness with high environmental performance.—CEO of the State Corporation Rostec, Sergey Chemezov.

KAMAZ’s major stakeholder is Rostec.

At least 45 kW is generated by the hydrogen fuel cell system, which drives the ZF electric portal axle. The bus is equipped with a sophisticated high-performance pneumatic braking system that includes EBS, ABS, ASR, and EPB, slope stop functionality, motion interlocking for open doors, and a monitoring sensor for brake pad wear and tear.

Additionally, a traction electric motor with a regeneration system is offered for braking. The top speed is 80 kilometers per hour. 80 passengers can be accommodated in total, with 33 seats. As with the electric bus, the new eco-transport is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +40 degrees Celsius.

The Rostec State Corporation is one of Russia’s greatest industrial conglomerates. It brings together more than 800 scientific and industrial organizations across the country’s 60 regions. The company’s primary areas of activity are aircraft engineering, radioelectronics, medicinal technology, and novel materials. AvtoVAZ, KAMAZ, UAC, Russian Helicopters, UEC, Uralvagonzavod, Shvabe, and Kalashnikov are among the corporation’s well-known names.

Rostec is involved in the implementation of all twelve of the country’s projects. The company is a leader in Smart City technology, is involved in the digitalization of government, industry, and social sectors, and is formulating plans for the development of 5G wireless technologies, an Industrial Internet of Things, big data, and blockchain systems.

Rostec collaborates with some of the world’s biggest firms, including Boeing, Airbus, Daimler, Pirelli, and Renault. The corporation’s products are distributed in over 100 countries. Exports of high-tech products account for over a third of the company’s income.
