Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) held a completion ceremony for the ‘Green Hydrogen Empirical Research Center’ and the ‘ICT Disaster Recovery Center’ at the Daejeon KHNP Central Research Center.
About 100 guests including KHNP President Jeong Jae-hoon and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute Director Park Won-seok attended the event, wishing for a successful future for the two centers.
The Green Hydrogen Demonstration Research Center is equipped with a water electrolysis facility that converts electricity into hydrogen, a tank for storing produced hydrogen, and a fuel cell using hydrogen, and an integrated control system has been established to organically operate them.
Through this, KHNP’s goal is to carry out various research including demonstration of the hydrogen life cycle, and to develop basic design and operation technology for a MW-class water electrolysis system linked with renewable energy by the end of the year.
The ICT Disaster Recovery Center is responsible for directing disaster recovery when KHNP’s data center, information communication center, and cyber control center lose their functions due to disasters such as various natural disasters. In addition, in order to use ICT resources more efficiently, it started work in Gyeongju and Daejeon at the same time.
“Through this completion case, KHNP has secured the infrastructure to implement 4th industrial revolution technologies such as ICT disaster recovery system conversion and AI, as well as securing competitiveness and core competency in hydrogen life cycle technology,” KHNP President Jeong Jae-hoon said. We will continue to make efforts to research and develop renewable energy and safe ICT technologies,” he said.
