In the rapidly evolving field of energy storage and transmission, the new patent titled “System for Supplying Liquefied Hydrogen” brings an innovative approach to storing and distributing liquefied hydrogen. Filed on March 20, 2025, by Korea Gas Corporation, this patent outlines a system that can revolutionize how liquefied hydrogen is stored, managed, and delivered to demand sites. The system proposes a unique method to maintain efficiency and safety throughout the supply process.

Components of the System

The patent describes several key components integral to the system. Central to the design are the liquefied hydrogen storage tanks, each equipped with a temperature control unit. These units are responsible for maintaining the tanks’ internal temperature and low pressure, ensuring the hydrogen remains in its liquefied state.

In combination with these storage tanks, the system also includes pressure tanks. These have a smaller capacity compared to the storage tanks but are maintained at a higher pressure. This pressure differentiation is a crucial aspect of the patent, as it allows for efficient hydrogen transfer despite varying storage parameters.

Additionally, the system features a liquefied hydrogen supply line. This facility transfers the hydrogen from the pressure tanks directly to the demand site, streamlining the delivery process and reducing the risk of loss or energy inefficiency.

Role of the Compressor

A significant innovation within this patented system is the inclusion of a compressor that plays a dual role. First, it compresses boil-off hydrogen gas that naturally occurs within the storage tanks as a result of slight temperature fluctuations. Then, the compressor redirects this compressed gas back to the pressure tanks. This action not only prevents wastage of hydrogen but also helps maintain the necessary pressure levels required for the effective delivery of the liquefied hydrogen.

Benefits and Potential Applications

This advanced system for supplying liquefied hydrogen brings several benefits that could enhance its applications across various sectors. By offering a method to manage and utilize boil-off gas, the system promotes sustainability and reduces the potential for hydrogen loss. Its design maximizes both energy efficiency and system safety, making it a viable option for industries aiming to transition towards cleaner energy solutions.

Moreover, by maintaining and utilizing differing pressure levels across various tanks, this system is optimized for both large-scale industrial facilities and smaller applications requiring precise and efficient hydrogen supply methods.

While it is essential to approach technological innovations with a balanced perspective, the “System for Supplying Liquefied Hydrogen” patent by Korea Gas Corporation offers a promising advancement in hydrogen energy supply technologies. By addressing critical aspects like pressure management and boil-off gas utilization, this patent lays the groundwork for more sustainable and efficient hydrogen usage in the future. As global energy needs continue to evolve, such innovations could play a pivotal role in shaping a clean energy economy.
