Korea plans to become hydrogen force No. 1 in the world

Hydrogen automobiles and hydrogen ports are being aggressively marketed. The administration has chosen to go ahead with initiatives to create a Korean-style hydrogen ecosystem in response to the climate problem.

The government plans to conduct the Hydrogen Economy Committee on the 26th in the presence of ministers from associated ministries, according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on the 20th. This group will examine hydrogen economy measures by sector and explore potential remedies in the future.

Only the hydrogen port connected to the hydrogen automobile is the most pressing priority for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. A hydrogen port is a future-oriented, environmentally friendly port that includes a hydrogen energy ecosystem that includes hydrogen production, import, storage, supply, and consumption. When the hydrogen port is finished, it will build a hydrogen ecosystem that will produce hydrogen and transfer it to the hinterland city, industrial complex, and cars (hydrogen vehicles) in order to create a virtuous cycle from hydrogen production to transportation and consumption.

The administration had previously unveiled the hydrogen port idea at the ‘2021 P4G Seoul Summit,’ which was held in May and attended by President Moon Jae-in. It is a multi-pronged strategy to convert key ports around the country to hydrogen-based, carbon-neutral ports, beginning with the national ports of Pyeongtaek and Dangjin. At the ‘Pyeongtaek Port Carbon Neutral Port Vision Proclamation Event,’ the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries stated in July that Pyeongtaek and Dangjin ports will become hydrogen ports by 2040.

Policy support for the development of hydrogen-based, carbon-neutral ports; construction of a hydrogen transportation complex in Pyeongtaek and Dangjin Ports; expansion of hydrogen vehicles in ports and promotion of demonstration projects; establishment of green hydrogen import plans; hydrogen ships and port hydrogen facility demonstration projects were among the business agreements signed at the time. Cooperation initiatives such as hydrogen-related personnel enhancement and training are included.

“Hydrogen is a future energy source that creates no exhaust gas, can be acquired from any nation, and has better energy density than fossil fuels,” President Moon Jae-in remarked at the APEC CEO Summit 2021 event on the 11th. “The objective of ‘carbon neutrality’ will produce future technology, industries, and new employment,” he stated.

“Korea’s hydrogen economy is quickly rising,” President Moon declared. “For the first time in the world, we were able to mass-produce hydrogen automobiles, and different hydrogen mobility products continue to have the world’s number one market share.” The development of the regional hydrogen economic ecosystem will be aided by Korea’s world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology.”

“Because the ports of Pyeongtaek and Dangjin are completely prepared with circumstances for hydrogen production, distribution, and consumption, we will develop a leading model for hydrogen ports,” stated Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Seong-hyeok. he stated emphatically The Korea Coast Guard and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries have put together a weekly plan.
