Securing globally acknowledged patents is essential for achieving “technological independence” and becoming a technical powerhouse for the hydrogen industry, through hydrogen intellectual property rights.
The hydrogen industry has also begun to expand under the new administration, but most of the technology advancements related to this sector’s equipment are dependent on imports.
The Korea Hydrogen Industry Association made the decision to create a subcommittee on hydrogen patents and actively provide the groundwork for the development and defense of hydrogen intellectual property rights in the hydrogen sector.
The initial meeting of the “Hydrogen Patent Subcommittee,” as announced by the Hydrogen Industry Association on April 16, will take place in the Korea Railroad Corporation conference room at Daejeon Station.
About 50 people, including representatives from the Korean Intellectual Property Office, businesses interested in joining the committee, association executives, and staff, are expected to attend this event, which was organized to create and protect intellectual property rights in the hydrogen industry.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office will host a special lecture on this day by examiner Hwang Young-Eun on the subject of patent trends in the liquefied hydrogen industry in relation to intellectual property rights, and a professional examiner (examination team leader) will offer companies in need of patent-related advice individualized customized advice.
Patent trends both domestically and internationally, patent acquisition connected to technology transfer, patent application technique, patent dispute prevention, and patent application strategy are some of the main themes of advisories.
Following the meeting with participating businesses, constructive ideas for developing and safeguarding the intellectual property rights of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), including strategies for energizing the committee and developing business cooperation plans, were extensively discussed.
In contrast to currently available natural resources like oil and LNG, hydrogen is a future energy source that may be created with technology, according to Shin Sang-gon, director of the Korean Intellectual Property Office. We want to support our hydrogen companies with a focus on enhancing their patent information use capabilities, he said, emphasizing that leveraging patent data is the simplest method.
“In a situation where technology development in the hydrogen industry is active, it is urgent to prepare an education and protection system for small and medium-sized companies’ patent applications or intellectual property dispute responses,” a representative of the Korea Hydrogen Industry Association stated. We will support a range of initiatives to establish and defend intellectual property rights.
