Lhyfe and Trelleborgs Energi to work on green hydrogen production in Sweden

Lhyfe and Trelleborgs Energi, are collaborating on a feasibility study to establish local renewable hydrogen production in Sweden’s extreme south.

The initial research focuses on a green hydrogen production capability of 5 MW in Trelleborg, Sweden. This research looks at energy supply, manufacturing capacity, technological selection, location, and the utilization of waste heat and oxygen.

Trelleborg is a significant transportation hub that will require hydrogen for filling stations and automobiles that have already been ordered. The number of heavy goods trucks traveling through the port of Trelleborg is predicted to rise from 800,000 today to 1.8 million in 2026, according to projections. This study project in Trelleborg, located in the Resund area, might help ensure the supply of hydrogen for transportation and industry as part of efforts to attain zero carbon emissions. Potential partners are already discussing the utilization of waste heat and generated oxygen (a byproduct of hydrogen production).

Lhyfe connects its production sites directly to local renewable energy sources to supply local uses in terms of industry and mobility. With 93 plants planned in Europe (for a total installed capacity of more than 4.8 GW) and the first industrial site set to open in September 2021, Lhyfe is one of the largest and most advanced players in the green hydrogen market.

“We’re happy to partner with a firm like Trelleborgs Energi, whose city not only puts green hydrogen on the map in Sweden… but most importantly in action,” says Björn Arvidsson, Area Manager Nordics & UK at Lhyfe. “We have a DNA: we both want to take immediate climate action, with a concentration on renewable hydrogen.” Working together to speed the region’s energy transformation is exciting.

The combined pre-study will allow an appropriate first configuration for hydrogen generation from renewable power to be defined.

“We aim to establish locally sustainable energy solutions, and renewable green hydrogen is an important component of that,” says Magnus Sahlin, CEO of Trelleborgs Energi. “Hydrogen is a clever and adaptable energy carrier that can aid in the solution of the climate crisis. We are confident that making a genuine impact today, “walking the talk,” is critical: our renewable hydrogen effort is one way to do so.”

Trelleborgs Energi and Lhyfe are both devoted to the energy transition and are pushing the frontiers of what is achievable.

Björn Arvidsson adds, “We want to win the fight against climate change.” “That means putting money into innovative technologies and getting green hydrogen production up and running as quickly as feasible.” The target date has been selected for 2024 in southern Sweden. We believe that green hydrogen is both necessary and valuable in industry and mobility. This initiative reaffirms Lhyfe’s strategic position on the Swedish market, from south to north!”

“To combat climate change, we must utilize all of the tools at our disposal,” Magnus Sahlin says. “We take our mission to move the energy sector toward better and more sustainable future solutions very seriously.” Hydrogen has been employed for over a century, but it has shown to be a clever and modern answer that can help us right now.”
