A consortium comprising Lhyfe and TSE is set to breathe new life into the Fonderies du Poitou sites, a year after their closure. This ambitious project goes beyond the conventional realms of green energy production, aiming to transform these sites into eco-industrial hubs that drive economic development and regional sustainability.
A year after the site’s closure, the Commercial Court of Paris just rendered its decision on the take-over of the land and real estate assets of the Fonderies du Poitou sites.
The Ingrandes Foundry site, sprawling across 43 hectares and featuring 40,000 square meters of buildings, will undergo a remarkable transformation under the joint venture between Lhyfe and TSE. This venture encompasses the dismantling of existing infrastructure, environmental cleanup, and the creation of an eco-industrial park designed to foster synergy among companies. This park will be more than a center for green hydrogen or green electricity production; it will be a beacon of ecological innovation and collaboration.
One of the key elements of this transformation is the installation of photovoltaic power facilities. TSE plans to set up these facilities at both the landfill center site and the Ingrandes Foundry site. These solar installations are not isolated ventures; they are interconnected with the broader goal of producing green and renewable hydrogen by Lhyfe. Remarkably, the electricity generated will be substantial, equivalent to half of the city of Poitiers’ consumption.
This transformative project has already attracted interest from various companies eager to join the Ingrandes site. In collaboration with Lhyfe and TSE, these companies include an industrial logistics firm planning a 20,000-square-meter logistics center and e-fuel producing companies specializing in e-methanol and rDME.
Collectively, this green energy hub is projected to generate between 250 to 300 jobs, with investments expected to reach several hundred million euros. It’s a significant milestone for the region, offering a path to economic revitalization, job creation, and a boost to the circular economy.
Alain Rousset, President of Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, lauds the project as a landmark regeneration initiative, aligning perfectly with the region’s NeoTerra strategy and its aspirations to be France’s foremost eco-responsible region.
Bright Future for Poitou
The Grand Châtellerault urban community is equally enthusiastic about this green energy venture. Jean-Pierre Abelin, Mayor of Châtellerault and President of the Grand Châtellerault urban community, sees this project as a beacon of attraction for the community, aligning with the objectives of their Territorial Climate, Air, and Energy Plan.
The Préfecture de la Vienne acknowledges the project as a pillar of the France 2030 investment plan, emphasizing its long-term potential for funding mobilization. The Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, through the Neoterra framework, is also set to provide financial support, cementing the project’s significance in the region’s green energy evolution.
