Danish shipping company AP Moller-Maersk signed a memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt for Investment and Development in Cairo, Egypt’s capital city, in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly (TSFE). In the middle of this month, a conference was held between the SCZone and the Danish group in order to define the project, which is primarily focused on the generation of green hydrogen.
By the end of the year, the agreement partners will conduct a feasibility assessment to see whether hydrogen and green naval fuels can be produced in Egypt, with Maersk as the client. For the production of renewable energy in Egypt, “Egypt – stated Henriette Hallberg Thygesen of Maersk – offers good circumstances, and has the goal to become one of the leading worldwide players in the value chain of the green energy,” she said. Energy and renewable fuels must be available in sufficient quantities and at a reasonable price to support the decarbonization of global maritime transportation, she said.
