The Jinn Pinn Minn Group (JPM Group) and its sister company, CETA Green Technologies Sdn Bhd, have unveiled plans to establish Southeast Asia’s first electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen-powered test, development, and certification hub.
With an initial capital investment of up to US$50 million, this ambitious project aims to position Malaysia as a leader in the green technology boom. The facility’s location, within the Klang Valley vicinity, is currently under consideration, and the project promises to address the need for safety, longevity, and research in EV products. By collaborating with global consultancy firm Ricardo Plc, the JPM Group aims to drive innovation and propel Malaysia to the forefront of EV battery development and innovation.
Recognizing the growing importance of EVs in the automotive market, JPM Group chairman Chin Jit Pyng emphasized the need to fill a void in Malaysia’s green technology landscape. While attention has primarily focused on importing, sales, and infrastructure for EVs, there is a lack of facilities and research dedicated to ensuring the quality, safety, and durability of EV products. This project aims to bridge that gap by providing a platform for the testing, development, and certification of EVs and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
At the planning stage, the project’s organizers are actively identifying suitable locations and securing funding from domestic and foreign investors. Discussions with the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation have yielded positive feedback, highlighting the government’s support for this groundbreaking initiative. The envisioned facilities will not only serve the industry and manufacturers but also provide a research and development platform for local industry players to foster innovation and contribute to Malaysia’s position as a leader in EV battery development.
JPM Group has engaged Ricardo Plc, a global strategic engineering and environmental consultancy, as the main technical delivery partner for this ambitious endeavor. Ricardo’s involvement highlights their commitment to nurturing human capital and developing technical expertise in Malaysia and the ASEAN region. The collaboration aims to support the region’s energy transition sector and bolster Malaysia’s capabilities in the field of green technology.
With the establishment of the EV and hydrogen hub, Malaysia is poised to unlock the full potential of EV and hydrogen-powered vehicles. By focusing on quality, safety, and longevity, the hub will drive innovation and research, ensuring that Malaysian-made EVs meet international standards. This project not only strengthens Malaysia’s position in the automotive industry but also paves the way for a greener and sustainable future.
