BBVA, patron of the first interdisciplinary chair on hydrogen in Spain

By joining an interdisciplinary group of specialists from the Higher Technical School of Engineering (Comillas ICAI) and the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences (Comillas ICADE), BBVA has become a patron of the first Hydrogen Studies Chair in Spain. They will study this chemical element as a key to reducing polluting emissions into the atmosphere.

Iberdrola and Huelva City Council have agreed to work together as institutional partners to spearhead the green hydrogen cluster

Gabriel Cruz (PSOE), the mayor of Huelva, has signed an agreement with Iberdrola, the energy firm, to be an institutional partner in leading the green hydrogen cluster in Huelva’s city. The mayor has defended his commitment to position Huelva at “the vanguard of the energy transition” in order to be “a benchmark at European level with the settlement of the conglomerate of companies that will produce this clean energy in our territory,” according to a press release from the Consistory.

In the spring of this year, hydrogen trains will make their debut in Spain

The preliminary testing, according to the Spanish business Talgo, will begin in March and will focus on short and medium-distance trips.
One of the advantages of this sort of train is that it will eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in both freight and passenger transit.
Talgo successfully completed tests on its hydrogen railway in October. Now they must do static testing at the company’s facility in Madrid, then place the system on the locomotive and conduct the initial track tests using carriages from a typical Talgo Intercity train.

The three-month delay in the plans that the firm had anticipated was owing to a supply bottleneck that afflicted the whole industry, according to the corporation. They will work at full speed from now on to complete the test cycle, after which they will be authorized to travel on 40% of Europe’s non-electrified roads without releasing CO2.
CAF, a Gipuzkoan firm, wants to conduct its first testing in Zaragoza in the summer of 2022, with the help of Renfe.
