The German business Neuman & Esser, which makes green hydrogen generators, has signed a letter of intent with the Minas Gerais government to spend up to R$ 45 million on the state’s fuel production.
With the expansion, the firm, which already operates in the Olhos D’gua area in Belo Horizonte’s western region, expects to create 75 direct employment and another 200 indirect positions.
Green hydrogen is hydrogen that comes from renewable sources and may be used to substitute coal in steel manufacturing, for example. It is deemed non-polluting since the residue of its burning is water vapor. The International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) predicts that renewable energy will account for around 6% of global fuel consumption by 2050, with nations like Germany investing billions in production.
“In 2022, we will invest R$ 20 million to develop the facility here in Minas,” says the company. “However, we will make further investments in partnerships with organizations who will require alternative technologies that are appropriate for their operations and demands,” says Marcelo Veneroso, the company’s general director.
