Monarch Energy, a pioneering energy company dedicated to decarbonizing hydrogen production, has unveiled plans for a monumental $426 million facility in Ascension Parish.

This visionary project aims to revolutionize the energy sector by employing a carbon-free process to manufacture 120,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day, heralding a new era of “green” feedstock for industrial and chemical processes.

Monarch Energy’s commitment aligns seamlessly with Louisiana’s comprehensive energy strategy, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable energy. Governor John Bel Edwards lauds the project, affirming that it will not only invigorate the Capital Region’s economy but also reinforce Louisiana’s position as a beacon of energy innovation investment.

Monarch Energy’s strategy hinges on a transformative process – electrolysis. By employing electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, the company pioneers a carbon-free manufacturing approach. The hydrogen produced through this method is hailed as “green” due to its zero-carbon footprint, as it circumvents the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The potential impact of the project is multifaceted. With the project’s realization, Monarch Energy anticipates creating 44 direct jobs, with competitive annual salaries. Additionally, the construction phase is projected to generate approximately 300 jobs, adding another layer of economic vitality. The rippling effects extend to an estimated 105 indirect jobs, creating a robust network of opportunities.

The collaboration with LED FastStart and the Economic Development Award Program underscores the convergence of economic prosperity and environmental stewardship. The venture aims to be a paradigm for investments in clean technology, laying the foundation for an innovative and sustainable community. This venture resonates with the transformative potential of green energy, redefining the future of energy production.

Monarch Energy envisions a groundbreaking project that transcends technology. Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment highlights the significance of embracing this initiative – not just as a technological leap, but as a commitment to nurturing a thriving community, fostering innovation, and fueling careers that will shape the landscape for years to come.

The road ahead is defined by ambition and purpose. Monarch Energy is projected to make its final investment decision in 2025, initiating construction that heralds the dawn of a new era in 2027. With these milestones, the green hydrogen plant aims to usher in a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow.
