For the proposed hydrogen project, H2OK, near Ardmore in the US state of Oklahoma, Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS and Woodside Energy have inked a deal for alkaline electrolyzer equipment. The deal is worth around NOK 600 million in total.

This machinery will support phase 1 of the proposed project, which is Woodside’s first hydrogen project in the US (60 tpd). The plant will be located in Ardmore, Oklahoma, which is a region ideal for producing hydrogen due to its abundant supply of water and electricity. These resources will be used by the business to create liquid hydrogen for heavy and commercial transport vehicles that are powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Only a few months had passed since Nel had obtained its largest-ever 200 MW purchase order for another significant US project before a contract with Woodside was finalized.

The only completely automated electrolyzer facility in the world, Nel’s plant in Herya, will produce the electrolyzer stacks.

This is a solid purchase order for engineering and equipment for the balance of the plant (BoP), alkaline stacks, and balance of stack (BoS) (which Woodside will provide). Price rises for nickel and steel have pass-through mechanisms. In 2023, Woodside plans to move forward with FID. Estimated electrode production runs through 2024.
