A leading US power and gas utility has awarded a contract to Nel Hydrogen US, a Nel subsidiary, for a containerized PEM electrolyzer and light duty hydrogen fueling station package.

For a power plant in the United States, Nel Hydrogen US has been awarded a contract for a containerized PEM electrolyzer and 700 bar H2Station hydrogen fueling equipment package. In addition to cooling turbine generators and injecting hydrogen into the natural gas fuel stream at the plant, this project will demonstrate the use of green hydrogen to fuel a fleet of light-duty fuel cell vehicles operated by the utility. Solar PV power will be used to power an on-site electrolyzer for all three use cases, making it an almost carbon-free hydrogen supply.

“This project represents an important opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility and multiple value streams offered by green hydrogen. We are thrilled to be working with a progressive and visionary utility on this project”, said Stephen Szymanski, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Nel Hydrogen US.

The equipment will be delivered in late 2022 and early 2023 at a cost of approximately USD 5 million.
