Hydrogen is an essential energy vector for achieving carbon neutrality and consolidating industrial bases. 6 companies from New Aquitaine will represent the hydrogen sector of the New Aquitaine Region at the HyVolution exhibition.
Achieving the European Union’s objectives and, in so doing, meeting the ambitions of the Paris Agreement in favor of the climate requires the development of low-carbon energy and increased efficiency of the energy system as a whole. To achieve this, the large-scale development of hydrogen will be an essential asset.
French companies are today particularly well positioned to become world leaders along the hydrogen and fuel cell value chain, from production to distribution, storage and transportation of hydrogen. France has a dense network of infrastructures for hydrogen: the gas network. Gas infrastructures are capable of transporting energy over long distances with very low losses. They can also transport and deliver very large quantities of energy at any time.
An ambitious support mechanism for hydrogen production and consumption will allow the industry to scale up quickly and become more competitive with the cost of fossil fuel hydrogen. With zero carbon emissions when burned, or coupled with a fuel cell, hydrogen is interesting for decarbonizing entire sectors of the economy. There are two main ways to produce low-carbon hydrogen: coupling conventional technologies (such as steam reforming) with CO2 capture and storage (CCS) or water electrolysis from decarbonized energy sources (nuclear or renewable).
Focus on the 6 companies of the New Aquitaine 2022 delegation
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region will be present at the HyVolution trade show, the leading event in France and Europe for the hydrogen sector for energy, industry and mobility.
The 6th edition, scheduled for May 11 and 12, 2022 at the Paris Event Center, will bring together over 260 exhibitors and national and international brands. The delegation of the New Aquitaine Region, accompanied by ADI New Aquitaine, will represent, for the 2nd consecutive year, the regional excellence of the hydrogen sector.

To further democratize hydrogen and make it accessible to everyone on a daily basis. In 2017, after four years of development, it launched the marketing of ALPHA, the first commercial electric bike using hydrogen as on-board energy storage. A bike capable of offering 150 km of autonomy and that can be recharged by compact charging stations that can be installed in public places. These turnkey H2 light mobility solutions are offered for sale or rent to public organizations, companies and fleet rental companies.
INDUSTRY
SEMAT
Location: La Rochelle – Charente-Maritime (17)
SEMAT is a designer and manufacturer of solutions dedicated to waste collection and road cleaning, which has developed the only hydrogen-powered refuse collection vehicle in France. Its main advantages are that it is quieter and less polluting than a traditional diesel-powered garbage truck, since it emits neither CO2 nor nitrogen oxide. With a strong presence in France, SEMAT is continuing to develop, and is preparing to open an assistance center in Montauban, and is working on the digitalization of its services. By 2024, a completely redesigned industrial site for industrial and energy performance will open in La Rochelle.
