In Assemini, in the metropolitan city of Cagliari, a new electrolysis plant will be built for the production and storage of hydrogen intended both for use as a raw material in the industrial cycle, to develop the volumes of current production, and for sale in the sustainable mobility sector.
The project, financed with 1.5 million euros provided by Intesa Sanpaolo and assisted by Sace’s 80% Green Guarantee., was presented by Società Chimica Assemini, which belongs to Gestioni Industriali Group (GIG) and specializes in the production of basic electrolytic chemistry (chlor-alkali).
The project idea also envisions that the volumes of oxygen, by-product of the new electrolytic process, can also be made available to industrial partners in the area.Società Chimica Assemini, based in the province of Cagliari, is today the only producer of soda ash, hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite in Sardinia. Intesa Sanpaolo, reads a note, ” has set itself the goal of supporting companies in redefining their development strategies in an innovative and sustainable way, consistent with the NRP. The Bank offers specific advice on evaluating projects and conducting a self-assessment of their degree of sustainability. In this framework, the agreement with SACE is particularly important, because it makes it possible to bring the financing up to 20 years, including 3 years of pre-amortization, favoring long-lasting transformative investments with an adequate financial weight for companies.”
“This investment,” commented Domenico Greco, president and CEO of Gestioni Industriali Group and Società Chimica Assemini, “represents a first but very important step toward the consolidation and development of production at the Assemini site. In fact, the rapid entry into the hydrogen supply chain in Sardinia will also be the prerequisite for accelerating the broader project to revitalize the relevant maritime logistics infrastructure of Società Chimica Assemini, with the aim of establishing a strategic hub for ammonia and green hydrogen storage in the Mediterranean, from diversified sources.”
