NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) is gearing up to establish a pilot project in Neyveli for the production of green hydrogen.

This initiative is part of India’s broader Green Hydrogen Mission, utilizing 4 MW of solar energy to power the electrolyser. This effort underscores NLCIL’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, as announced by Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli during an event.

Motupalli proudly noted NLCIL’s significant financial achievements, with a Profit After Tax of ₹566.69 crore, marking a 37.02% growth compared to the previous year. He outlined future projects, including power generation through coal-based plants in Odisha and renewable energy projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Notably, the company plans to expand its Thermal Power Station-II in Neyveli and has entered a joint venture with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RVUNL) to set up a 500 MW lignite-based and 2000 MW solar power plant.

NLCIL has also secured the Machhakata coal mine with a reserve of 1377 Million Tonnes and a peak rated capacity of 30 MTPA through the commercial coal block e-auction.

In addition to energy projects, NLCIL plans to provide free bus services for school children from Neyveli arch gate and Mandarakuppam to their respective schools. During the event, various awards were distributed. Long service awards, loyal service awards, and special awards were given to notable employees and students. The senior-most worker, S. Chandrika, was honored along with her spouse. Tricycles were also presented to differently-abled individuals. The celebrations were concluded with a cultural program by Neyveli school children.
