India’s push into large-scale green hydrogen production is accelerating as NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) opens the door for global and domestic green chemical developers to participate in the 7GW Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.
The project, valued at $21 billion, is set to become the nation’s largest integrated hydrogen and renewable energy complex. The Expression of Interest (EoI) invites developers to propose projects spanning hydrogen-based chemicals including ammonia, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, and green urea. NGEL will facilitate access to land sub-leases, water supply, green hydrogen, and biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2), streamlining infrastructure requirements for prospective participants.
At full scale, the Pudimadaka hub aims to produce 2.5 million tonnes per year of hydrogen-based chemicals, supported by 7.5 GW of electricity infrastructure including GIS substations, transmission lines, desalination, logistics, storage, and port facilities. The renewable power supply will be drawn from NGEL’s Andhra Pradesh solar and wind portfolio, part of its ambitious 60 GW renewable target by 2032.
The hub’s strategic location near Visakhapatnam positions it for seamless integration with domestic and export markets, leveraging port access and industrial connectivity. Announced earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India’s first national green hydrogen hub, Pudimadaka underscores the government’s emphasis on decarbonizing industrial energy consumption while scaling renewable energy deployment.
Developers have until October 24, 2025, to submit bids. NGEL plans to process submissions immediately after the deadline, signaling the urgency and strategic priority of accelerating India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.
