Onyx Power intends to construct a hydrogen production plant at its current location in Rotterdam’s port to create low carbon blue hydrogen.

With a 1,200 Megawatt capacity, the plant could generate 300 kilotons of blue hydrogen annually to meet national decarbonization goals and decarbonize industries. Insufficient offshore gas fields would be used to trap and store the CO2 created during the production of the blue hydrogen. Every year, 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 may be avoided by doing this.

Onyx Power has informed the competent Environmental Protection Agency (DCMR) that an environmental impact assessment would be conducted in line with the Environmental Management Act in order to be able to implement this project. The corporation has released a Notitie Reikwijdte en Detailniveau (NRD) as part of this process that outlines the planned parameters of the environmental impact assessment.
