OxEon Energy recently received $36 million in funding from the US Department of Energy’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
They plan is to accelerate its solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) manufacturing capabilities. Recognized as an efficient method, SOEC can produce hydrogen or synthesis gas with exceptional efficacy for energy storage, sustainable fuel production, and industrial operations. OxEon’s technology was successfully employed on the Mars Perseverance Rover as part of NASA’s Mars Oxygen In Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE). They have since adapted the SOEC device for terrestrial applications.
The funds granted will ramp up OxEon Energy’s production capability, aiming for 25 MWe annual production capacity. It should streamline manufacturing processes and reduce stack production costs, paving the way for OxEon’s first Giga Watt facility. The project incorporates risk assessment, opportunity identification, industry engagement, and energy impact estimation.
OxEon Energy will implement advanced automation technologies to streamline key procedures, reducing labor costs and enhancing output. The automated devices will especially cater to a 25 MWe annual production capacity and can be upscaled to a fully automated Giga Watt facility.
In-line quality inspection protocols will fortify product oversight, improving control, yield rates, and cost-effectiveness. OxEon Energy will collaborate with industry trailblazers like JR Automation, ASYS Group, ONEJOON Inc., and Silverstone Automation to leadership in the creation and assimilation of innovative manufacturing equipment.
