Plastic Omnium established a partnership with Hyliko, a mobility expert that decarbonizes heavy vehicle fleets by integrating hydrogen storage systems.
The initial phase of the agreement is the purchase of 315 high-pressure hydrogen containers to equip 45 trucks by 2024’s end.
The partners also intend to collaborate on the development of new hydrogen storage technologies that will extend truck ranges to over 750 kilometers, a nearly 60 percent increase.
Hyliko is the market leader in decarbonization services for fleets of heavy-duty vehicles. It provides transporters and logistics operators with a one-of-a-kind, all-in-one solution that combines the leasing and maintenance of hydrogen-powered trucks, the supply of hydrogen produced from biomass leftovers, and the carbon management of fleets.
Hyliko aspires to prevent the emission of 1.5 million tons of CO2 by 2030, to equip 10 percent of the European hydrogen truck market (about 15,000 vehicles), and to install 100 hydrogen production and storage stations across Europe. Since 2015, Plastic Omnium has been a pioneer in hydrogen mobility.
Its New Energies branch designs and manufactures full hydrogen systems for all forms of transportation, including fuel cell modules.
“We are delighted that Hyliko has chosen our storage systems to leverage the development of highly specialized solutions for decarbonizing heavy vehicle fleets. This announcement is further proof of the existence of a buoyant market for hydrogen mobility in the commercial transportation sector,” says Marc Perraudin, CEO of Plastic Omnium New Energies.
“We are very excited about our new partnership with Plastic Omnium, which will support development of our hydrogen trucks designed to decarbonize our clients’ heavy vehicle fleets. The partnership will also mean we can boost the operational performance of our vehicles,” says Florent Bergeret, Chairman and Founder of Hyliko.
