To power material handling lift trucks, Plug Power announced a deal with Walmart for up to 20 tons of liquid green hydrogen per day.
This is one of Plug’s first green hydrogen supply contracts, validating its multi-year green hydrogen network investment.
Green hydrogen is created by electrolyzing water with zero-carbon electricity, emitting only harmless oxygen as a result.
Plug will deliver green hydrogen to Walmart facilities using a fleet of liquid transport Plug has put into service using capabilities gained from its recent acquisition of Applied Cryo Technologies.
A 50-fleet pilot in 2012 was followed by a fleet of 9,500 and growing. Now, the retailer is working to decarbonize its operations by using green hydrogen in all of its facilities to create more efficient, clean, quiet, and sustainable lift truck operations.
Plug plans to produce 70 TPD of green hydrogen by the end of 2022, 500 TPD in North America by 2025, and 1,000 TPD globally by 2028.
