Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, sets its sights on becoming a hub for the hydrogen industry, with Mayor Lee Kang-deok spearheading efforts to foster collaboration with the Seoul Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2 Korea).
Designated as a ‘Hydrogen Industry Promotion Agency’ in 2021, H2 Korea plays a pivotal role in promoting the hydrogen industry, facilitating international cooperation, and supporting the growth of hydrogen companies, with 87 specialized members.
With a vision to attract 70 hydrogen companies and achieve 1 trillion won in sales by 2050, Pohang focuses on creating a conducive environment for hydrogen-related businesses, leveraging its infrastructure and human resources advantage.
Pohang is investing in core hydrogen city infrastructure, including hydrogen vehicles, charging stations, and a piping network, aiming to revolutionize the city’s economy and citizens’ lives by harnessing hydrogen as the primary energy source.
Mayor Lee emphasized hydrogen energy as the core of the energy transition for carbon neutrality and pledges to lead Pohang’s exemplary journey towards becoming a model for energy transition, leveraging the city’s infrastructure and hydrogen industry expertise.
