Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the beefed up Future Fuels Fund provides “an Australian way” to lower transport emissions, reiterating a slogan he introduced recently to describe the country’s middle ground on climate change policy.
MOL and MOL Drybulk will operate the ship, while J-ENG will build the engine, which will be the world’s first low-speed, two-stroke hydrogen-fueled marine engine.
The trio is considering ammonia production in Queensland and New South Wales. Incitec Pivot, an ASX-listed company, will offer its ammonia manufacturing expertise under the terms of the agreement. The land will be provided by Incitec Pivot on Kooragang Island in Newcastle, New South Wales.
CAC-H2 will be the principal technology supplier for Patriot Hydrogen’s initiatives to design, build, and commission Waste to Energy Plants – Patriot to Hydrogen (P2H) units under the terms of the agreement.
The Canberra-Seoul cooperation is the result of a series of projects between Australian and South Korean companies, with the primary goal of producing hydrogen in Australia and exporting it to South Korea.
The plant will meet 63% of its energy demands with renewable energy, according to parent firm Korea Zinc, which claims this “reflects our commitment to renewable energy in Australia.”
