Repsol plans to install the first electrolyzer at its Petronor refinery in Spain’s Basque Country to produce hydrogen.

The electrolyzer, with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts, will cost $10.4 million, according to the Spanish oil and gas company. It is scheduled to be operational in the second half of 2022.

Repsol aims to be a leader in the renewable hydrogen sector in Spain, with a total capacity of 557 megawatts equivalent installed in 2025, rising to 1.9 gigatonnes in 2030.
