A request for permission from the borough council to construct a £40 million green hydrogen factory in Barrow has been made.
Renewable energy would be used to power the proposed development, which would be constructed on about 20,000 square meters of property in Meeting Industrial Estate in Park Road.
The 30MW hydrogen electrolyser could produce 4,680 tonnes of hydrogen annually at maximum production.
The majority of the hydrogen produced under the plan will be sent via a dedicated pipeline to an appropriate off-taker about 500 meters north of the site (Kimberly Clark).
Additionally, there is a chance (within the design) to use some of the hydrogen to be delivered by road tanker to important regions in the area for use in road transportation, industrial facilities, district heating, and building.
Dr. Chris Leach of Carlton Power submitted the application.
