Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that the government of Sarawak is always willing to work with foreign companies such as Korea and Japan to promote the state’s hydrogen economy.
He stated that he will be in Korea this next weekend to improve cooperation with investors there.
“In October, I will travel to Japan to discuss hydrogen as a new fuel source for the energy transition from carbon fuel to carbon-free fuel in support of global efforts to combat climate change,” he said.
He said this in his address during the Sarawak-level Merdeka Day 2022 commemoration at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, Betong today.
He also stated that Sarawak, through Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Energy, will collaborate with Petronas on research and development to manufacture sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from algae.
“The aviation industry is one of the primary contributors to global warming due to its high production of greenhouse gases.
“Hydrogen cannot be used as a fuel in aircraft, but biofuel is an excellent alternative fuel for aviation engines,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude that Sarawak is a peaceful state whose citizens try to maintain togetherness despite their many religious and racial backgrounds.
There has never been a major racial or religious issue that may bring split in the multiracial community of Sarawak, despite occasional disagreements.
“By 2030, Sarawak has an excellent chance of becoming a developed economy with a high income.
“Therefore, I urge all the people of Sarawak to work together and cooperate in order to realize this dream.”
