Sembcorp Industries has taken a significant step towards green energy by signing two non-binding Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Odisha.

These MoUs are centered on developing a green hydrogen production facility and an industrial park in the state. The agreements were executed by Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL) and Sembcorp Development Limited in collaboration with Odisha’s Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The first MoU concentrates on evaluating the feasibility of establishing a green hydrogen facility in Odisha. This facility aims for an impressive annual production capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen, potentially creating over 2,000 jobs during its operational stage. The second MoU targets the development of an industrial park in Odisha, with a partnership between Sembcorp Development Limited and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

In late 2024, the Odisha government gave the green light to seven renewable energy projects with a total investment of Rs 13.86 billion. Combined, these projects will deliver a capacity of 192.41 MW to enhance the state’s sustainable energy framework. This approval was granted by the single-window committee of the state’s energy department.

The Ministry of Power in May 2023 also introduced incentives for green energy projects by waiving inter-state transmission system charges for offshore wind energy, extending the waiver to green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.
