The Council of Ministers in Spain recently approved a Royal Decree that promises a substantial boost for the automotive sector’s transition to sustainable mobility.

The decree allocates 40 million euros in direct aid to support innovative projects focused on hybrid vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. This move is expected to trigger an additional 160 million euros of private investment, resulting in a total funding pool of 200 million euros when combined with public funds. The government’s vision is clear: to promote the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, harnessing innovations in energy management and advanced control systems. The ambitious initiative also aligns with Spain’s Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap, solidifying the country’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.

Spain’s Royal Decree aims to bolster the country’s position in the automotive industry while spearheading the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions. By investing in projects focused on hybrid vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, the government seeks to drive innovations that optimize energy efficiency and advance control systems.

The direct grant of 40 million euros will fuel industrial research, experimental development, and innovation in processes or organization within the automotive sector. Companies are encouraged to explore energy management optimization, advanced control systems, and other cutting-edge technologies that contribute to sustainable mobility solutions.

With private investments expected to reach a total of 200 million euros, the initiative has the potential to generate over 1,000 jobs within the electric vehicle value chain. By supporting projects that focus on hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles, Spain is paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable mobility horizon.

Spain’s commitment to renewable hydrogen production is evident through its ambitious goal of contributing 10% of European renewable hydrogen capacity by 2030. This Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap outlines Spain’s dedication to strengthening the renewable hydrogen value chain and embracing cleaner energy alternatives.

With the Royal Decree’s approval and a clear vision for sustainable mobility, Spain is not only fortifying its position in the automotive industry but also paving the way towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. By investing in innovative projects and promoting green technologies, Spain is poised to play a leading role in shaping the future of transportation.
