Técnicas Reunidas has been given an engineering contract for the creation of a sizable green hydrogen generation facility for the Catalina project, supported by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), to be erected in Andorra (Teruel).
The study of the plant’s layout, the creation of the necessary technical documentation to get the necessary permits, and a comprehensive cost estimate are all included in the engineering contract.
The first stage of the Catalina project, which CIP is working on with the help of Enagás Renovable, Naturgy, and Fertiberia, entails the construction of a 500 Megawatt green hydrogen generating facility that will be able to produce more than 50,000 tons of hydrogen annually.
A 221-kilometer-long pipeline will carry the hydrogen produced to significant industrial consumers in the Mediterranean region, including a recently constructed, cutting-edge green ammonia plant with an annual capacity of 247,000 tons, as well as to refineries and tile businesses.
According to estimates, Catalina will help prevent the release of close to 400,000 tons of CO2 annually.
The project’s second phase will increase the plant’s ability to produce green hydrogen to 2,000 MW. The output would be sufficient to meet 30% of Spain’s current demand for green hydrogen.
