TECO 2030, a key player in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry, proudly announces its participation in the Zero Emission Adriatic Ship (ZEAS) project.
This ambitious endeavor, supported by the EU Horizon program with a grant exceeding EUR 13.5 million, is poised to revolutionize waterborne transport through the deployment of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered system.
The primary goal of the Zero Emission Adriatic Ship project is to demonstrate the viability and efficacy of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered system for maritime applications. With a dedicated focus on the Adriatic Sea’s delicate marine ecosystem, the project aims to provide a scalable model for environmentally friendly waterborne transport.
The project encompasses several key activities, including the design and construction of the hydrogen-powered vessel, the development of comprehensive hydrogen distribution, storage, and bunkering solutions, and extensive sea trials to ensure compliance with certification standards. The environmental impact is a crucial consideration, with emissions assessment, environmental performance studies, and thorough risk and safety evaluations forming integral components of the initiative.
To propel the project forward, advanced digital technologies will play a pivotal role. The development of digital twins, augmented reality systems, and predictive maintenance solutions will be undertaken, aiming to optimize the monitoring, control, and simulation aspects for shipowners, operators, shipyards, and engineering firms.
The ZEAS initiative brings together a formidable international consortium comprising leading entities across various sectors, all dedicated to the development, validation, and showcase of a zero-emission passenger ship fueled by hydrogen. The consortium partners include Lurssen Design Center Kvarner, Gitone Kvarner, Maritime Center of Excellence, Jadrolinija, University of Rijeka – Maritime Faculty, DNV Greece, Hycenta Research, TECNO Ambiente, Scan Projekt, Technische Universitaet Chemnitz, Zenlab, and the Croatian Hydrogen Association.
