The new hydrogen supercar revealed

BAC has officially unveiled its new hydrogen fuel cell-powered sports vehicle.

Since January, the British carmaker BAC has been collaborating with Viritech on a project to build a hydrogen fuel cell-powered BAC Mono. The first photographs and technical data of this concept automobile, which claims to be lighter and quicker than its original form with a gasoline engine, were recently released by the two businesses. Because it is simply a feasibility study based on a concept vehicle, this automobile is not yet viable.

The choice of hydrogen is a matter of proportion

According to BAC, the company chose a fuel cell over a battery-electric system since the latter would raise the vehicle’s overall weight by 50%. The weight gain of the supercar is restricted to 149 kg when a hydrogen system replaces the combustion engine.

Viritech believes that by employing lighter components such as carbon fuel cell housing and a more compact battery module, the excess weight may be reduced to 100 kg. The BAC e-Mono would only weigh 655 kg as a result of these components!

Outstanding performances

The BAC e-Mono has a design that is essentially identical to that of its predecessor. New LED headlights, larger air intakes, rear panels, and new aerodynamic features are among the other modifications.

The BAC e-Mono has a total output of 371 horsepower (the 264 hp of its battery added to the 107 hp of its fuel cell). The car can accelerate from 0 to 95 km/h in 2.2 seconds and achieve a peak speed of 430 km/h. The automobile completed a full lap of the Silverstone Circuit in under 2:04:3 minutes in a computer simulation. In comparison, the internal combustion-powered BAC Mono took 2 seconds longer to complete the same journey. Great performances, will need to be proven on a real track.

Range of up to 500 kilometers

Without specifying tank capacity, the BAC e-Mono can go around 250 kilometers on a single tank (or ten laps on the circuit in racing conditions). However, BAC and Viritech intend to extend the range to 270 kilometers. By 2024, the two partners plan to create a new vehicle with a range of more than 500 kilometers!

They are now seeking money in order to quickly bring their hydrogen supercar to market.
