Three initiatives in Rotterdam are getting state grants under the IPCEI scheme to boost the production of green hydrogen.
Several hundred million euros are at stake in total. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has designated a unique site on Maasvlakte 2 for this new sector.
Here will be located the electrolyzers that will manufacture green hydrogen utilizing green power (offshore wind). These are Shell (Holland Hydrogen 1), BP and HyCC (H2-Fifty), and Air Liquide plants (CurtHYL). Each plant has a capacity of 200 to 250 MW. In comparison, the largest plant currently in operation in Europe is 20 MW.
The Dutch central government has declared that seven green hydrogen generating projects will get subsidies. Three of these are located in Rotterdam. The remaining four are located in Zeeland, Amsterdam/North Sea Canal, and Groningen.
